Our University hosted the “Be Prepared for Disasters” programme with the aim of raising young people’s awareness of disasters and enhancing their understanding of disaster management. Implemented within the scope of the ÜNİDES Project, the programme provided comprehensive information on pre-disaster preparedness, appropriate actions during disasters, and post-disaster response measures.

The programme was attended by our Rector Zafer Asım Kaplancıklı, Vice Rector Murat Yurdakul, Secretary General Muhammet Büyük, Engin Öztürk, Director of the Bilecik Provincial Directorate of Environment and Urbanisation, Ercüment Diyar, Director of the Bilecik Provincial Directorate of Disaster and Emergency Management, Yeşer Karabulut, Director of Bilecik Youth Services, and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Harun Tunçel, along with academic staff and students.

During the programme, expert-led presentations addressed Türkiye’s disaster risk profile, with particular emphasis on earthquakes and other natural disasters. The sessions highlighted precautionary measures that can be taken at both individual and societal levels, underscoring the importance of educating young people as disaster-aware individuals. The vital role of access to accurate information and effective coordination during disasters was also strongly emphasised.

The programme concluded with a question-and-answer session, followed by expressions of appreciation to the participants.
